Effect of pressure on the anomalous response functions of a confined water monolayer at low temperature.
We study a coarse-grained model for a water monolayer that cannot crystallize due to the presence of confining interfaces, such as protein powders or inorganic surfaces. Using both Monte Carlo simulations and mean field calculations, we calculate three response functions: the isobaric specific heat C(P), the isothermal compressibility K(T), and the isobaric thermal expansivity α(P). At low temp...
متن کاملLow-temperature olivine rheology at high pressure
San-Carlos olivine rheology was investigated at pressure (P) up to 9 GPa and temperature (T) lower than 890 ◦C. Six powder specimens were cold compressed and sintered into dense and compact materials, then deformed during relaxation experiments carried out at constant pressure and temperature in DIA-type cubic-anvil apparatus. Sample elastic strain was monitored during relaxation by in situ X-r...
متن کاملEffect of Pressure and Temperature on Poultry Offal Meal Quality
In two experiments, 720 broiler strain cockerels were used to determine the effect of pressure and temperature on poultry offal meal (P.O.M.) quality. Poultry offal meals were subjected to 20, 28 and 35 pounds per square inch gauge (p.s.i.g.) steam pressure for <1 or 15 minutes (Experiment 1) and 15, 30 and 45 p.s.i.g. steam pressure for 15 or 30 minutes (Experiment 2). All pressures were allow...
متن کاملPRESSURE EFFECT ON CURIE TEMPERATURE FOR Co1-xBx AMORPHOUS ALLOYS
Pressure effect on Curie temperature, dTc/dp, for amorphous Col-,B, alloys is estimated indirectly from forced volume magnetostriction even in Tc > Tcry. Results estimated indirectly show smaller values compared with those measured directly, and are consistent with thermal expansion. The value of dTc/dp extrapolated to Co agrees with that for crystalline Co.
متن کاملHydrophobic effect in the pressure-temperature plane.
The free energy of the hydrophobic hydration and the strength of the solvent-mediated attraction between hydrophobic solute molecules are calculated in the pressure-temperature plane. This is done in the framework of an exactly soluble model that is an extension of the lattice model proposed by Kolomeisky and Widom. The model takes into account both the mechanism of the hydrophobic effect domin...
